Steps:

  1. Use this procedure only for oven-heating symptoms, not cooktop-burner problems.
  2. A weak hot surface igniter can glow red or orange and still delay gas ignition.
  3. Gas-valve or control faults can cause similar symptoms, but this guide only covers igniter testing and replacement.
  4. Turn the oven off and let it cool completely.
  5. Unplug the stove and shut off the gas supply before removing panels or touching wiring.
  6. Restore power and gas only during the short ignition tests, and keep hands, tools, and loose clothing away from the burner.
  7. Open the oven and remove all oven racks.
  8. Remove the two rear screws from the oven bottom panel with a flathead screwdriver.
  9. Slide the oven bottom panel toward the back of the cavity.
  10. Lift the panel out of the oven.
  11. Keep the screws with the panel so they return to the same holes.
  12. Locate the flame spreader, also called the heat shield, over the burner and igniter.
  13. Remove the three recessed heat-shield screws with a Robertson screwdriver or nut driver.
  14. Remove the heat-shield nut with a nut driver.
  15. Lift the heat shield, slide it forward to clear the rear tabs, and remove it.
  16. Set the shield, nut, and screws aside together.
  17. Clear your hands and tools from the oven cavity, restore power and gas, and set Bake to 400 °F.
  18. Listen for the control click that energizes the igniter circuit.
  19. Watch the hot surface igniter without touching it.
  20. A good igniter should become very bright, almost white-hot, within a few seconds and light the burner promptly.
  21. Replace the igniter if it only glows red or orange, never gets very bright, or allows ignition to lag.
  22. Turn the oven off, unplug the stove, shut off the gas, and let everything cool before touching the igniter.
  23. Remove the burner-tube screw with the driver that fits it.
  24. Shift the burner tube enough to free it from the oven cavity.
  25. Remove the two screws securing the igniter to the burner-tube bracket.
  26. You can leave the burner tube in place for cleaning, but removing it gives you more room to replace the igniter.
  27. Keep the igniter screws separate from the panel screws.
  28. Pull the lower storage drawer out from under the stove.
  29. Locate the gas valve under the oven.
  30. Find the two igniter wires that drop down through the stove bulkhead to the valve area.
  31. Record the connector positions before unplugging them.
  32. Pull both igniter wires off the top of the gas valve.
  33. Identify the piggyback spade connector on the stove-side wire.
  34. The other side of that piggyback connector belongs to the igniter harness.
  35. Separate the igniter wire from the piggyback spade connector.
  36. Leave the piggyback spade on the stove-side wire.
  37. Feed the igniter wire that does not have the piggyback spade through the silicone sleeve.
  38. Confirm that the igniter leads are now free from both the gas valve and the bulkhead plug.
  39. Feed every loose igniter wire except the piggyback-spade lead up through the stove toward the oven cavity.
  40. Pull the loosened igniter up through the oven cavity.
  41. Guide the wires through the access hole as you lift the igniter.
  42. If a wire catches underneath the stove, free it before pulling harder.
  43. Remove the old igniter from the stove.
  44. Compare the replacement igniter with the original before cutting any wires.
  45. Cut the old igniter wires so the original gas-valve and control-plug connectors remain attached to reusable leads.
  46. Shorten the new igniter wires with wire cutters.
  47. Leave extra length because the wire-nut splices make the harness route around the connectors instead of running straight across.
  48. Lay the old and new igniters side by side to choose a cut point with enough extra length.
  49. Handle the new igniter carefully and avoid touching the element surface with bare fingers.
  50. Slide the old heat sleeves onto the replacement igniter wires.
  51. Position the sleeves where the wires bend near the igniter.
  52. Strip the cut wire ends with wire strippers.
  53. Hold each reused connector lead side by side with its matching replacement-igniter lead.
  54. Twist a wire nut onto each pair until the connection is secure.
  55. Use the wire nuts supplied with the replacement igniter.
  56. Feed the replacement igniter wires down through the oven access hole.
  57. Route the wires through the tight clearance without pinching them.
  58. Reconnect the saddle connector at the piggyback spade.
  59. Push the larger spade connector onto the back spade of the gas valve.
  60. Slide the silicone boot down over that larger spade connection.
  61. Push the smaller spade connector onto its gas-valve terminal, then slide its silicone boot into place.
  62. Twist the silicone boot slightly if it resists sliding over the connector.
  63. Reconnect the remaining plug connector and reinstall the lower drawer.
  64. Straighten the igniter wiring from underneath so it is not twisted or pulled tight.
  65. Align the igniter with the holes in the igniter bracket and burner-tube bracket.
  66. Start the two igniter mounting screws by hand.
  67. Tighten the two igniter screws.
  68. Reinstall and tighten the burner-tube screw.
  69. Make sure the igniter is secure before restoring power.
  70. Plug the stove back in and turn the gas supply back on.
  71. Push the stove back into position if you moved it.
  72. Set Bake to 375 °F.
  73. Listen for the click that energizes the igniter.
  74. Confirm that the new igniter glows faster and brighter than the old one did.
  75. Confirm that the burner ignites promptly.
  76. Turn the oven off and let it cool before reinstalling the panels.
  77. Set the flame spreader back into the oven before reinstalling the bottom pan.
  78. Insert the rear tabs of the flame spreader into the back of the oven.
  79. Lower the spreader so the front stud passes through its hole.
  80. Reinstall the heat-shield nut with a nut driver.
  81. Reinstall the recessed heat-shield screws with the Robertson screwdriver or hex driver.
  82. Make sure the shield sits flat over the burner.
  83. Slide the oven bottom pan back into the cavity.
  84. This panel also serves as the drip surface that catches spills.
  85. Wiggle the panel as needed until it sits under the rear screw holes.
  86. Reinstall the two large rear screws with a flathead screwdriver.
  87. Reinstall the oven racks.
  88. Set Bake to 350 °F and confirm that the oven heats normally.
  89. Turn the oven off after the final test.
