Steps:

  1. Turn on the television.
  2. Turn the television off.
  3. For larger televisions, have another person assist with handling.
  4. If the television has a stand:
  5. Keep the stand screws separate from the other screws.
  6. Place the TV display-side down on a clean, soft surface.
  7. Do not force the cover if it does not release. Hidden screws or clips may still be holding it in place.
  8. With the rear cover removed, identify the major assemblies.
  9. The exact layout varies by model.
  10. Locate the LED backlight connectors.
  11. Reconnect a loose connector if appropriate and perform another test before completely disassembling the display.
  12. A suitable LED backlight tester can be used to test LED strips where the tester is appropriate for the television's LED configuration.
  13. If one LED strip has failed, replacing the complete compatible strip set is often preferable to replacing only an individual LED, depending on the construction.
  14. The procedure differs significantly between TV models.
  15. Be especially careful around the bottom edge, where display connections and delicate components may be located.
  16. This is the most delicate part of the repair.
  17. Place the LCD panel flat on a clean, protected surface.
  18. Behind the LCD panel there may be several layers, including:
  19. Dust, fingerprints, scratches, or incorrect layer orientation can produce visible spots or uneven brightness after reassembly.
  20. Once the backlight assembly is accessible:
  21. Some strips use adhesive backing, while others use clips or mechanical retainers.
  22. Clean the mounting area if necessary.
  23. The LEDs should face the correct direction toward the optical assembly.
  24. Reinstall the optical sheets in their original order.
  25. Even a small particle between optical layers can become visible as a spot on the finished display.
  26. With assistance for larger panels:
  27. Do not press hard on the display.
  28. Align the bezel around the panel.
  29. Do not overtighten screws around the display assembly.
  30. Reconnect every cable removed during disassembly.
  31. Use photographs taken during disassembly as a reference.
  32. Position the rear cover.
  33. Reconnect the TV to mains power.
