SEAT ATECA Lubricating the moving part of the fuel filler door support and locking lid.

Description:

Steps:

  1. 2 very basic, simple, and easy preventive maintenance tasks that take 3 minutes to perform and which, in the long run, can help prevent the plastic piece that holds the fuel cap from snagging, wearing out, or breaking, and ensure the fuel filler door opens easily.

  3. Photo 1 Cap in the closed position. If we apply a little petroleum jelly or grease along the path where the fixed part rubs against the cap when screwing it on, we will ensure that the cap turns very smoothly and does not wear down this part, extending its service life.

  5. Once the fuel cap holder is lubricated, spend 1 minute lubricating the locking mechanism for the fuel tank cap cover. This piece is inserted and rotated simultaneously; if you apply a drop of fine oil (such as sewing machine oil) and a little grease or petroleum jelly, it will operate with complete smoothness.

  7. We tested the travel distance of the door latch; when pressed all the way in, it clicks or locks into place, and pressing it again releases it. We will see what its range of motion is and where we need to apply the petroleum jelly or oil—I applied both.

  9. Apply a couple of drops of fine sewing machine oil or similar, and wipe off the excess.

  11. Test it a couple of times so the entire surface is lubricated, and our preventive maintenance is now complete. We have spent 3 minutes on this, which could save us from other problems in the medium to long term. Maintenance is exactly that: anticipating what might happen so that it takes longer to occur or does not happen at all.
