Philips Azur Pro Steam Iron Power cable Replacement
ID: 239131
Description: Model: Philips Azur Pro 2800W Problem: Power...
Steps:
- Look at the back of your iron! You will see three black ovals. These are stickers that are concealing the screws. Remove the stickers! You should be able to do that even with your finger nail. Now take a look inside!
- Take a look inside! You will find 3 screws: one cross (+) screw on top, and two star (Torx) screws. Use the screwdrivers (size Cross - PH2; Torx - T15) to remove them
- Note: Consider purchasing yourself a screwdriver kit. As a beginner, I bought myself a set with removable bits of different sizes, since I didn't know which size would be the right one.
- After you remove the bottom screws, remove the transparent panel and take out the orange container. It can be a little bit stuck
- In order to remove the back panel for this iron model, you only need to disconnect the snap joint, as shown on the picture. For that you don't need to remove or open anything else (like the top of the handle, as can be seen in some guides or videos on Youtube).
- Mind that it might not be that easy! Try it with your fingers until you feel the lid budge, and open it carefully. It my case, there was glue attached to the lower part of the panel, holding it in place, so it required a little bit more force and determination :)
- This is what you should see after removing the back panel. Take a picture of the wires (circuit) to use it later as a reference when you will be connecting the new power cord.
- Remove the two cross (+) screws that hold the cord wires in place
- Place the power cable in the way that makes it clear which wires come from the cable. These are the only ones you will need to disconnect
- Here the wires are connected using the spade connectors (female and male)
- Take a closer look at the spade - you will see an arrow shaped lever. To disconnect, press the lever down (using a fine screwdriver or some pin), and pull it out gently. Make sure you don't pull on the wire itself, so that you don't damage it!
- Now, when all the spades have been disconnected, remove the old power cord
- 1. Get the replacement power cable - braided 3 core flex cable, preferably of a decent length
- 2. Strip all three wires of your replacement cable and crimp the spade connectors (make sure you choose the right size!) To connect a spade connector to a wire, strip about 6-7 mm of insulation, insert the bare strands into the connector barrel, and use a crimping tool to compress the metal tightly onto the wire
- 3. Connect the wires, using the reference picture of the circuit you took earlier
- 4. Secure the wires in place with the two cross (+) screws
- 5. Assemble everything back and reattach the back panel.
