How to Reconnect the Sole of a Shoe
ID: 37604
Description: This tutorial shows the general steps to take...
Steps:
- Lay several sheets of paper towels down in order to protect the surface you are working on.
- Take a Clorox Wipe and thoroughly clean the area where the separation has occurred.
- Make sure the shoe is completely dry before moving to the next step
- Generously apply glue to both surfaces of the separated shoe.
- Wait for about 2 minutes to allow the glue to set before reconnecting the sole.
- Make sure that glue is applied to every surface that is being reconnected
- When the glue application is done, press and hold the sole and the separated surface together in order for the glue to dry.
- Clean up any excess glue that has oozed out of the split with a Clorox Wipe.
- Removing glue is much easier when it is still wet. If some glue oozes out during the drying process, it can still be removed yet it will be more difficult.
- Stuff an object, such as a 1/2 filled water bottle or newspaper, into the shoe to keep its form.
- Stack heavy objects on top of the part of the shoe that is being reconnected.
- The sole of the shoe may shift when stacking the weight. Make sure the sole is inline with the shoe.
- Due to the shoe's curvature, I had to place an object under the heal of the shoe to get the desired contact.
- Remove any excess glue with a Wet rag or moist towelette.
- In order to remove the dried glue, you may need to apply a lot of pressure and scrub rigorously.
- The shoe is now fixed and ready to use.
