How to Replace Scott Mountain Bike Handlebars

Steps:

  1. Prop bike upright
  2. Unscrew the hex bolts holding the front and rear shifter in place.
  3. Use the H4 size hex wrench
  4. Repeat for other side of handlebars.
  5. Step image Step image
  6. Slide the shifters toward the center of the handlebars so there is a gap between them and the grips.
  7. Repeat for other side of handlebars.
  8. Step image
  9. Use a flathead screwdriver to wedge a gap between the grip and the handlebars.
  10. Twist grip around until it comes off of handlebar.
  11. Repeat for other side of handlebars.
  12. Step image
  13. Slide the shifters off of the end of the handlebars.
  14. Let them hang on the bike.
  15. Repeat for other side of handlebars.
  16. Step image
  17. Unscrew the hex bolts holding the center bracket in place.
  18. Use H3 hex wrench.
  19. Place center bracket and hex screws off to the side. They will be needed in the next step.
  20. Step image
  21. Attach new handlebars and screw the center bracket back in place.
  22. Make sure that handlebars are centered.
  23. Step image
  24. Slide the shifters back onto the handlebars so that the numbers are upright.
  25. Do not screw them back in place yet.
  26. Step image
  27. Slide the handlebar grips back onto the ends of the handlebars.
  28. Slide the shifters back against the grips and screw them into place.
