Repairing Dell U2711 Display Flickering Panel due to corroded Contacts

Steps:

  1. Lay the display on a desk with the front facing down. Best use a towel to save the desk and display from scratching.
  2. Unscrew the four hex screws that secure the stand.
  3. Step image
  4. Starting opposite of the buttons, pry open the display bezel with a plectrum.
  5. You have to apply some force.
  6. Don't lift the rear panel higher than two centimeters. There are delicate flat cables on the button side which might be damaged.
  7. Be extra careful at the buttons, you don't want to damage a cable.

  9. Unplug the USB cable of the card reader.
  10. Remove the rear cover.

  12. Remove the shiny cover in the middle.

  14. There are two black connectors below the cover.
  15. Unplug both and treat with contact spray.
  16. Plug both back in.
  17. Reassemble the display.
  18. You should be fine for a while. Notice that the corrorsion might return in a few months.

  20. Now remove the two screws of the side panel.
  21. Lift the flat cables gently of the panel.

  24. Remove the four screws that hold the main metal box in place
  25. Gently lift the flat cable where it is glued onto the right side of the screen.
  26. Lift the metal box from the right side

  28. Use contact spray on these connectors as well.
  29. Put everything back together.
