Steps:

  1. Remove the 4 exterior screws using a Phillips #000 Screwdriver .

  3. Pry the back case off using the blue Plastic Opening Tools. Work one along the seem until you can get your fingers under to pull it apart.

  5. Remove the two pieces of tape securing the ribbon cables to the motherboard.

  7. Remove the 3 screws at the top of the motherboard.

  9. Using a plastic prying tool, lift open the latch that secures the ribbon cable next to the speaker.
  10. Pull the ribbon cable out of its connector on the motherboard.

  12. Use a plastic prying tool to disconnect the other ribbon cable from the motherboard. This cable belongs to the device's cameras.

  14. Disconnect the large ribbon cable from the motherboard. Do this by unlocking the tabs on each side of the connector.
  15. When working with electronics, it's important to choose a tool that's ESD-safe to avoid accidental damage to the device. The regular black nylon spudger or a plastic opening tool should be used whenever possible.

  17. Snip the two sets of wires that are attached to the motherboard. Cut the wires as close to the board as possible. This will leave plenty of length to reattach the wires to the new board.
  18. Skip this step if you are only removing the motherboard to replace the screen.
