Steps:
- Begin the repair by placing the Bose-301 speaker vertically.
- Using two hands, pull the speaker grill towards you and away from the speaker body.
- Pull the main speaker grill towards you to remove it from the body structure.
- Lay the speaker body on its back.
- Using the Philips Screwdriver, carefully remove the four #2x19mm screws that mount the main speaker to the speaker body.
- Untwist the slack in the wires that are connected to the main speaker.
- Carefully place the speaker off to the side.
- Be sure to not place the speaker face down or put pressure on the speaker cone as this can damage the cone.
- Be aware of the very strong magnet in the driver of the speaker, which can cause damage to electronic devices in close proximity.
- Then untwist the slack in the wires that are connected to the tweeters.
- Using the socket wrench and the 1/4" socket, unscrew the 12.5 mm bolt that mounts the tweeter to the bracket.
- While holding the tweeter, use your other hand to feed the wire through the hole at the bottom of the tweeter mount.
- Remove the tweeter from the mount and locate the two wires that connect it to the speaker.
- Using the pliers, untwist the wires that are attached to the two small rods at the bottom of the tweeter.
- Repeat process for the second tweeter.
- Be sure not to excessively bend the bare wires in order to reuse it for the replacement tweeters.
