Steps:

1. The frame of this iMac model is identical to its 2012-2015 predecessors, except that the microphone is behind the bottom-right edge of the display.
2. In this new position, the "4R" strip completely covers the microphone and the holes in front of it, deadening any sound picked up.

3. Use scissors to cut off the part of the adhesive strip that will cover the microphone.
4. Continue with adhesive installation and reassembly as instructed.
