Description: Use this guide to remove and replace the...
Steps:
- Before you begin, be sure that the engine is powered off and is cool to the touch.
- Grab the plastic housing at the end of the spark plug wire.
- Pull firmly to disconnect the wire from the spark plug.
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp securing the hose to the unloader.
- During reassembly, replace the hose clamp with a new one.
- Pull the end of the hose that's attached to the unloader straight off of the unloader.
- Use an 11/16" wrench to remove the straight nozzle from the unloader.
- Use a 12 mm open-end wrench to remove the 90° nozzle from the unloader.
- Use an 8 mm hex wrench to remove both of the plugs from the unloader.
- Be very careful not to strip the hex openings on the plugs. These are held in with red thread locker and may be very difficult to remove.
- It may help to rotate the unloader for easier access to each plug.
- The replacement unloader may have plugs already installed in the wrong holes. During reassembly, note where the plugs are supposed to go and install them in the correct places on the new unloader.
- Use a 27 mm open-end wrench to unscrew and remove the unloader.
- Remove any thread seal tape, and clean any thread locker off of all the fittings, nozzles, and plugs that will be transferred to the new unloader.
- Before reinstalling the new unloader, reapply teflon tape and the appropriate color of thread locker.
- Apply the thread seal tape in the opposite direction of the treads so that it doesn't unravel when you screw in the fitting. Wrap the tape around the fitting about five times.
- Both of the plugs need red thread locker. Both of the nozzles and the fitting going into the bottom of the unloader need thread seal tape and blue thread locker.
