ASS RCD does not trip

ID: 160367

Description: If you touch a live part and get an electric...

Steps:

  1. the circuit breaker works with the IC RV4145, which requires 26V, but there are 230V on the line, the excess is 'burned off' in a large resistor
  2. directly next to the resistor sits (stands) a small electrolytic capacitor, a design flaw, because electrolytic capacitors do not like heat ..... after a few years they are defective
  3. and the dangerous thing here is, you don't notice anything ..... current still flows .......
  4. Only by pressing the 'Test' button do you notice the defect!

  6. Desolder the defective electrolytic capacitor.
  7. To make the new electrolytic capacitor last longer, install it on the underside... it is not as hot there.
  8. Observe the polarity, see the photo for +.
  9. When testing without switching off, the small test resistance can burn out and must then also be replaced; 6.8 kΩ for 30mA RCD (18 kΩ in the photo).

  11. so, attention, such an RCD is not 'fail-safe'
  12. therefore regularly press the 'Test' button !
