Steps:
- Gym cables can become frayed with overuse, becoming dangerous for the user. So, let’s fix it.
- Purchase a new cable to replace the old one.
- I bought my cable from Life Fitness, but other verified gym suppliers carry the cable.
- Remove the pulley at the back of the Triceps Pushdown.
- In order to remove the pulley and the pulley covers from the boom, you’ll need two separate Allen wrenches.
- You'll use each Allen wrench on either side to remove both pulley covers.
- Use the left side to stabilize the nut while using the right to take out the screw.
- The left pulley cover will fall off as soon as the screw is out; you'll need to pull the right side off.
- The pulley will fall out once the screw (and the right pulley cover) are no longer in place.
- Use an adjustable wrench to remove the lock nut.
- Rotate the lock nut up with your fingers.
- Don’t worry about moving the lock nut up entirely.
- Remove the lock nut once you get the cable from the head plate.
- You will need to use this lock nut again with the new cable.
- Pull the cable up through the Triceps Pushdown.
- It will fit through the front pulley without removing the pulley or the pulley covers.
- Slide the new cable through the front pulley.
- The pulley itself will help as it turns and guides the cable through.
- Guide the cable down the still empty back boom.
- Separating the end of the cable can help guide the cable back down.
- Screw the cable back into the head plate.
- You don’t need to worry about tightening the lock nut as long as the cable itself is screwed in.
- Start putting the back pulley back together.
- Put the pulley inside the boom.
- Make sure the cable is on top of the pulley. The cable needs to run through the groove.
- Place the right pulley first.
- Align the bites with the built-in groves
- Push the screw through the pulley to the right side.
- You'll need to align the pulley cover and the pulley inside the boom in order to push the screw through.
- Place the right pulley with the grooves.
- Use both Allen Wrenches to tighten the screw back into place.
- Rotate the lock nut down to the bottom of the cable.
- Use your adjustable wrench to tighten the lock nut until it’s locked into place.
- Use a lightweight to check the cable. Make sure the cable runs along both pulleys.
- Clip on your favorite Triceps Pushdown attachment, and you're done!
