Steps:

  1. Remove any accessories such as the detachable keyboard from the device.
  2. Power the device off by pressing and holding the power button for about three seconds.

  4. Insert a spudger into the ridge between the screen and the back of the device, creating a small gap.
  5. Run the spudger along the edge of the screen and around the corners to separate the screen from the rest of the device.
  6. Be careful not to use more force than necessary with the metal spudger or else the device could potentially be scratched.
  7. Do not fully lift or pull the screen away from the device once it is loose because the internal connectors are still attached.

  9. Lift the small tab on the orange connector.
  10. Separate the screen from the back of the device.

  12. Remove the two pieces of electrical tape securing the battery.
  13. Expect some resistance as you pull on the tape to remove it.
  14. If the tape is not reinserted correctly during reconstruction, the device may not be able to power on again. Keep this risk in mind and try not to damage the tape.

  16. Remove two 3 mm screws from the metal bracket securing the battery connector using a Phillips #00 screwdriver.
  17. Remove the metal bracket.

  19. Carefully lift the connector and remove the old battery.
