Description:
Steps:
- Another method or option for repairing a crack in a USB cable; in this case, I use Scotch-type rubber tape, which is widely used for insulating outdoor wiring, primarily for mobile phone antenna connectors.
- For these repairs, the first step as always is to apply a few drops of superglue to the cracked area.
- Images of Scotch 23, self-fusing tape.
- 2nd Application of Vulcanizing Tape: For those who are not familiar with this tape, it is not plastic, it is rubber. Unroll a few cm, stretch it to remove the snake-like plastic layer, and wrap it. Once wrapped, it tends to shrink and self-fuse layer to layer, providing insulation and rigidity.
- We will apply several layers of tape around the area to be reinforced.
- 3. To finish the repair and cover the vulcanizing tape, we use heat shrink tubing. In this case, I am using a reinforced rigid type that contains internal adhesive that activates when heated. Cut a piece about 3 cm long.
- Since the USB connector does not pass through the heat shrink tubing, you need to expand and stretch it; this can easily be done with flat-nose pliers.
- With the tubing widened, you have a few seconds to insert the connector and position the heat shrink tubing before it begins to shrink on its own.
- 4th Finally, heat the heat-shrink tubing with a heat gun, a lighter, or a kitchen torch; it will shrink and adhere perfectly to the connector, providing excellent rigidity.
