Steps:

  1. Turn off the washing machine, unplug it, and make sure no wash cycle is running.
  2. Keep water and damp cloths away from the controls, plug, and wall outlet.
  3. Clean the detergent drawer at least once a year, or whenever residue, mold, or conditioner buildup appears.
  4. This procedure was written for the Bosch Serie 4 VarioPerfect washing machine.
  5. Use the same method on a Siemens washing machine only if the drawer has the same release-button design.
  6. Find the dispenser drawer on the left side of the front panel.
  7. Pull the drawer straight out until it stops.
  8. Press the release button down firmly to lower the retaining clip.
  9. Keep the button pressed and pull the drawer completely out of the machine.
  10. Rinse the drawer under hot water.
  11. Use an brush to scrub away grime, dirt, mold, and washing powder residue.
  12. Use only a spare cleaning brush, and don't reuse it for personal care.
  13. Older drawers can look much dirtier than a new washer drawer, especially where detergent and conditioner collect.
  14. Lift out the measuring level if the drawer has one fitted.
  15. Lift out the catch in the middle of the drawer.
  16. Rinse the removable pieces and the drawer under a hot tap.
  17. Use the brush to scrub the exposed areas where dirt and mold collect.
  18. Reinstall the measuring level and the middle catch after they are clean.
  19. Wipe inside the dispenser cavity with a non-scratch damp cloth while the drawer is removed.
  20. Don't use a brush inside the cavity, as it can fall into the detergent and conditioner opening and get trapped.
  21. Clean only the reachable surfaces, and don't force the cloth down into the opening.
  22. Line up the dispenser drawer with its runners.
  23. Push the drawer in slowly until the release clip reaches the front edge.
  24. Don't slam the drawer into place, as this can damage the clip.
  25. Press the release button down again so the clip tucks underneath.
  26. Push the drawer home until it closes fully.
  27. Dry any visible water around the dispenser and plug the machine back in when the area is dry.
