Steps:
- Confirm that the dryer is showing the E68 error code before opening the control panel.
- E68 means the control is detecting a stuck button.
- Leave the dryer assembled and powered only while running the keypad test.
- Unplug the dryer before removing screws or opening the control panel.
- Reconnect power only after the control panel is fully secured for retesting.
- Turn the timer dial to Normal.
- Hold Select and Cancel together for six seconds.
- Immediately hold Start and Cancel together for four seconds.
- The dryer is in function test mode when the sequence is accepted.
- Rotate the timer knob four clicks to the right to enter the key-button test.
- Press each control-panel button one at a time.
- A working button turns on the row of indicator lights.
- Mark any button that does not light the indicators when pressed.
- If a button cap is missing, use a nonconductive probe to press the exposed switch.
- Unplug the dryer from the wall.
- Find the top screw on each side of the control panel that threads into the plastic housing.
- Remove those two top screws with a screwdriver.
- Leave nearby screws in place if they do not thread into the plastic.
- Locate the two rear control-panel screws, one on each side behind the panel.
- Remove the first rear screw.
- Support the control panel with one hand while removing the second rear screw.
- Rotate the control panel downward to access the control board.
- These rear screws can be awkward to reach from behind the panel.
- Find the three screws securing the control board to the control-panel assembly.
- There is one screw at each end of the board and one in the middle.
- Remove all three screws with a screwdriver.
- Keep the control panel supported while the board is loose.
- Pull the plastic retaining sides of the control-panel assembly away from the board to release the snap clips.
- Lift the control board and pull it carefully away from the panel.
- Keep the small button pieces in place so they do not fall out.
- The board is clipped into the panel, so it will not lift straight out until the snaps release.
- Insert a screwdriver into each button opening to press the switch behind it.
- Listen and feel for a clear click from each switch.
- Make sure every switch moves freely and springs back after you press it.
- Work any sticky switch several times until it clicks and returns normally.
- Pay extra attention to the button that failed the key-button test.
- Align the control board with the control-panel assembly.
- Press the board into place until the snap clips hold it.
- Reinstall the three control-board screws.
- Rotate the control panel back into position and hold it steady.
- Reinstall the two rear screws, then the two top screws that thread into the plastic.
- Plug the dryer back in only after the control panel is secure.
- Enter function test mode again with the timer dial set to Normal.
- Hold Select and Cancel for six seconds, then immediately hold Start and Cancel for four seconds.
- Rotate the control knob four clicks to the right to enter the key-button test.
- Press each button and verify that the row of indicator lights turns on every time.
- The drum can run in function test mode, so keep the door open if you do not want the dryer to start.
- The repair is successful if every button passes and E68 does not return.
- Run the key-button test again if E68 returns after reassembly.
- Work any button that still feels sticky or does not click consistently a few more times.
- If every button clicks, moves freely, and the same button still fails the test, the electronic control board is likely faulty.
- Replace the electronic control board if the buttons test good but the E68 code keeps returning.
- Unplug the dryer before any control-board replacement work.
